First off, rest assured everyone around you has been in your shoes at one time or another, so, if you are new to the practice, here are some tips and tricks for making your practice enjoyable.
Make sure you are well rested and hydrated throughout the day. Don’t wait until class starts to catch up!!! Plan to arrive 15 minutes before class to sign in and get settled.
Make sure you bring water, a yoga mat and a yoga towel (If not, we can provide you with a rental).
Remove your shoes before entering the yoga room.
Make sure your cell phone is turned off and put away before class starts.
When entering the yoga room please be mindful and keep your voice low.Respect and enjoy the silence of the yoga room before, during & after class.
Introduce yourself to your instructor and inform them of any injuries or medical conditions that might affect your practice.
Don’t push it. Instead of trying to mirror what your neighbor is doing, go at your own pace without straining or injuring yourself. You’ll go farther faster if you take a loving attitude toward yourself and work from where you are, not from where you think you should be.
Don’t skip Savasana. It’s the best part! Your final relaxation in Savasana is an integral part of the practice. If you absolutely have to leave early, be sure to tell the teacher in advance and take a short Savasana before you go.
Clean your rental mat and hang it to dry in the studio. Used towels go in the hampers in studio or in the changing rooms after class.
After class, leave the room quietly. Connect with your fellow yogis in the studio lobby and not in the yoga room.
Regardless of how the class goes and what happens, remember that yoga is a life-long process, so have fun, let go, and above all, smile. See you at the studio.
