Hi yogis!
We had the chance to chat with Laura Sykora and ask her a few questions about life and yoga. Keep reading to check it out and be sure to sign up for her workshop June 16th and 17th at Yoga Joint North Fort Lauderdale.

1- Do you prefer coffee or tea?
Definitely coffee!

2- Early bird or night owl?
Night owl

3- Are you a yoga-only kind of person or do practice something else?
For the most part, I’m a yoga-only kind of person, but I will try almost anything once!

4- How was your first yoga class? Did you fall in love instantly or did it take some time?
My first yoga class was actually at my sister’s house when I was 20. I was babysitting my nieces and nephew and had put them to bed. Nothing was on TV. So looking for something to watch, I scanned my sister’s VHS tapes and found a Baron Baptiste yoga tape. Decided to try it and fell in love… the rest is history.

5- What life events started you on your path to becoming a yoga teacher?
5 years ago I went up to see my brother and his family. My niece was 13 at the time. She asked me to “follow her on Instagram.” I had absolutely no idea WTH she was talking about but being the cool aunt that I was, I downloaded the app. When I finally figured out how it actually worked and what to actually post on it (YOGA!)… everything started to click for me. I was not happy working in an office, so it allowed me to follow my passions and dreams.

6- If you weren’t a yoga teacher, what would you be?

7- One of our favorite mantras at Yoga Joint is “You can’t until you can.” We love this mantra because it reminds us that we should not give up on our goals just because they are challenging. Can you share with us one of your favorite mantras or quote and can you tell us why you connect with it?
“It’s never too late to be what you might have been.” – George Eliot This is one of my favorite quotes because it took me a long time to follow my dreams. Starting a new career in your mid-30’s is scary. It’s just an awesome reminder that goals are attainable at any age.

8- What would be the weirdest thing that happened to you on a workshop or in a Yoga class?
Nothing terribly weird that I can think of… so here is my funniest. An older, male student of mine asked me to spot him after class. He had a rip in his pants… like in the most inappropriate place. I had to avert my eyes, try not to giggle and keep him from falling over.
